Using meal credits and Uber Cash for free meals

To catch what equates to about two meals a month, cardholders simply need to use their Amex Gold Card when you dine at select participating restaurants in-person or via take-out (more on that later) to receive $10 in statement credits each month. They will also receive $10 in monthly Uber Cash credits, which can be used to order food through Uber Eats.

You will need to enroll in each program to take advantage of these benefits. You can join the dining program through your American Express account to access these monthly dining credits and add your Amex Gold card to your Uber account to receive Uber Cash credits. It’s also important to note that these meals aren’t technically free, since you’ll have to pay the Gold Card’s annual $250 fee (see rates and fees) to have an account, although the other card benefits and credits can easily outweigh the fees.

Keep in mind that the secret to maximizing these benefits — and avoiding steep surcharges — is to use them for pickup orders instead of delivery. Savvy diners may also be able to increase the value of these credits by taking advantage of promotional codes and other discounts, such as those offered by Uber One (formerly Uber Eats Pass) or Grubhub+.

Note that Uber Cash and Monthly Meal Credit are use-it-or-lose-it. You will therefore not be able to carry over unused credits to the next month if you do not use them in time.

Here’s everything you need to know about Amex Gold Card Monthly Dining Credits.

$120 in restaurant credits per year

With the Amex Gold Card, you’ll earn up to $120 each year in dining credits, which breaks down to $10 in statement credits each month.

While we like to score free food, the Amex Gold Cards advantages and advantages do not stop there.

New cardholders can currently earn 60,000 bonus points after spending at least $4,000 in the first six months of card membership. These points can be used for great value when redeeming for travel – and you’ll also have the option to redeem them for cash back or gift cards.

You’ll also have access to a robust rewards program that allows you to earn 4X points at restaurants and when shopping for groceries in US supermarkets – up to $25,000 per year, after which you’ll earn 1X points – as well only 3X points for flights booked directly with the airlines or via AmexTravel.com and 1X points for all other purchases.

Amex Gold Card members can also unlock $100 resort credit, among other exclusive benefits, when they book a minimum two-night stay The Hotel Collection. There are also additional protections in case your trip is delayed, your luggage is lost, stolen or damaged, or if you need car rental loss and damage insurance. Plus, if you’re traveling abroad, you won’t have to worry about paying foreign transaction fees for using the card abroad.

Although the Amex Gold card can be a great option for making large purchases as it has no preset spending limit, keep in mind that there is a variable APR of 18.24% to 25.24% on eligible costs.

There is also an annual fee of $250 (see rates and fees), so make sure you can take advantage of its many benefits so you can really make this credit card worthwhile.
