Ahmadiyya Muslim College principal Zaiba Bano with her quest for head of household and the school principal on April 28, 2022.

Nothing could dissuade Zaiba Bano from believing that she could become a school prefect. She didn’t even study under generator lights during her elementary and high school days.

Zaiba’s sacrifices finally paid off when she was appointed principal of the Ahmadiyya Muslim College in Voloca, Dreketi last Thursday. The emotional 19-year-old said her family were proud of her achievement.

Originally from Valelawa in Dreketi, where the electricity connection is limited, Zaiba traveled to Natua in Seaqaqa to stay with his older sister, Razia Bano, for her studies, especially since electricity was available there.

“Because I had to prepare for my external grade 12 exams, my sister arranged for me to stay with her on weekends and other free days to study,” she said.

Her leadership background speaks volumes, as she was also an assistant principal in grade 8 and then a junior principal in grade 11.

“I have always been disciplined in my studies and the way I conducted myself was due to the fact that my family believed that through discipline and hard work, academic dreams and ambitions could be achieved,” he said. she declared.

“I thank my teachers, in particular the director, the deputy director for having trusted in my abilities because I have to reconcile both my studies and my responsibility as a prefect.”

Zaiba, who is an arts student, scored 281/400 in Grade 12 and has set herself the goal of scoring over 300 points in her Fiji Grade 13 Certificate exam this year.

She then aims to pursue a career in accounting by enrolling in the Bachelor of Accounting course at the University of the South Pacific at Laucala in Suva.

His older sister, Razia Bano, who is employed as a commercial manager at Ram Jattan supermarket in Seaqaqa, said they still had high hopes for Zaiba.
