NORFOLK, Virginia – The Old Dominion volleyball team kicks off their 12-game Conference of the United States schedule this Friday and Saturday when they face Florida Atlantic on the road. Both matches are scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on CUSA.tv.
The Monarchs enter the weekend on a four-game winning streak, the longest such streak in the program’s short history. Last weekend, ODU won all three games of its Quest for the Crown tournament, beating Radford and Buffalo in four sets and sweeping through Norfolk State.

The San Diego native averaged 12.55 assists per set over the three games and orchestrated an Old Dominion offense that recorded 15.09 assists per set and a 0.298 hitting percentage. Atilano distributed 53 assists against the Highlanders, a season high and the second in program history. For the season, she ranks fourth in the conference with 9.26 assists per set.
Myah Conway joined Atilano in the All Tournament squad and also received C-USA Freshman of the Week honors. Conway averages 3.45 kills per set on an attack percentage of 0.324. She has hit double digits in knockouts in all three games, including a personal best 15 against Radford. In that game, she also hit 0.370 with four blocks.
The third ODU member of the team of all tournaments, Hailey duncan led the Monarchs with 3.55 kills per set while hitting 0.578. Duncan is second at C-USA in hitting percentage (0.413) and has hit 0.500 or better in each of its last three games and four of its last six. The middle tackle leads the team with 102 kills and is first in total blocks (46).
The Owls have an 8-5 start to the season, but lost all three of the Sunshine Challenge Cup games last weekend – losing in straight sets to Miami (Fla.), UCF and Florida Gulf Coast.
FAU is led in attack by rookie Klara Zarnovicka. The Ostrava, Czech Republic native is sixth in C-USA in kills per set (3.72) and points per set (4.67) and leads the league in serving aces (28) .
MiaBella English and Stephanie Young combined for 414 assists in total, and both players averaged better than 4.50 assists per set. Camryn Vogler’s 166 digs punctuate the team and Lauryn Green leads the Owls with 34 blocks.
Florida Atlantic and Old Dominion share a common opponent in the state of Norfolk. The Owls beat the Spartans 3-1 on September 10 at the Tiger Invitational in Towson, Maryland.
Last season, the Owls finished last in the C-USA East Division with a conference record of 2-10 and were 2-12 overall.
Old Dominion swept FAU to Norfolk in the spring, including a return win in five sets on February 28. The Monarchs were down 2-1 in this game before winning the final two sets. The next day, ODU won the first two sets in a possible 3-1 victory.
The Monarchs are hosting the UAB in a non-conference series on Friday October 1 and Saturday October 2. Friday’s game starts at 6 p.m. and Saturday’s contest begins at noon.
